The doting mother wanted to put a hex on him, turning him into a toad or a salamander or something else higher in the food chain. She refrained, however, because she knew her daughter deeply loved James and that was good enough for her. It wasn't until her daughter was beaten badly in a subway while her husband stood by and watched that Beatrice came to realize why she so disliked James. She realized he lacked a certain, um, "genital fortitude".
Well, he simply had to go. But Beatrice decided that James could use a fate that was more fitting for his previous behavior. Certainly, he was due for an improvement...
