Well, I'm posting outside of my usual schedule here. But, I mean, come on. How could I not? Please enjoy.

NES Works 113: Friday the 13th

I understand why the early turn of the millennium video game critics hated on this game. It has many flaws. It has pacing issues. It's too hard. But I think it would be given much more of a break if it wasn't an LJN licensed game because as you say it has "a lot going on". Being hard wasn't unusual for a game from this era. I think what many critics have in their mind from being a kid is how they didn't know what they were doing. I know I felt that way. The game was also relatively attractive. The game is more brightly colored than horrifying, but I remember the game looking good in the kiosks at the local department store. "...you have to defeat his mother too, in the tradition of Psycho, and Beowulf" ... and Friday the 13th (part 1).

Evenhanded and thorough analysis into a game like this is the reason your channel shines so bright. Does the game suck? Absolutely. But so many people have blamed bad programmers when you have something ambitious and remarkably functional (some highly regarded games have worse controls than this!), when it's more about the realities of licensed game development. In a way it's bittersweet that the "licensed B-game" is gone nowadays; people with IP to burn just make forgettable mobile games and hope to entice a whale, rather than potential diamonds in the rough held back by deadlines like this one...
