Segaiden #54: After Burner & Penguin Land
Added 2023-09-13 10:30:55 +0000 UTCI hope you're enjoying NES Works 1989, and I am happy to say that NES Works will continue going forward this fall and beyond. HOWEVER, every growing boy and girl and enby needs a little Sega in their diet, too. Segaiden's meander through the mysteries of Master System will also continue going forward this fall and beyond, with my current plan being to bring the Master System and NES timelines parallel next summer, with their respective August 1989 releases. At which point all hell breaks loose and three new systems enter the chronology. Madness!!
For now, though, here are an ambitious and impressive if not entirely successful conversion of After Burner and a sequel to SG-1000 gem Penguin Land. Master System is back, baby. Come pet the... cat? No, sorry, wrong system.

I think what I appreciate most about Segaiden is that, compared to the volume of work on NES games, there is so little produced about the Master System in North America. As far as I know, you're the first video historian to take a "scholarly" approach (if that's the right term) to this underappreciated 8-bit platform. We still have enthusiasts and apologists like SEGA Lord X and Game Sack, but I really enjoy your cerebral approach to these unique games!
