Game Boy Works Gaiden #09: Lynx 1990, Pt. 2

The latest side story to Game Boy Works takes us through some really solid arcade conversions for Lynx—all of which are games that have been seen recently or will be seen soon on the NES/NES Gaiden side of things. It's a small world, these early ’90s.

The games in question this time around: Ms. Pac-Man, Rampage, Rygar, and Xenophobe. How do their Lynx interpretations stack up to other contemporary versions? Surprisingly well, for some of them. If you came here to see me slagging Lynx, I'm afraid you're in for a disappointment, friends.

Yeah, it was alphabetically the closest thing to Xenophobe available as a MiSTer arcade core... but also a small teaser for the episode going up in three weeks.

Hey look, you already started doing talking head intros for each game. That's what I get for looking at comments before watching. Other than the framerate issues with the CRT, I think the onscreen stuff is looking good. It's quick and easy and doesn't distract from the usual video content. It's not even an unusual setting for this kind of YouTube content. Gaming Historian has a sizeable YouTube following, and his talking head shots are just him from the chest up in front of some of his furniture with some gaming bits and bobs on it, and it's not harming his presentation style or detracting from the documentary style he employs. Even outside of gaming, Well Dressed Man In Front Of Interesting But Not Distracting Background is a winning formula for all kinds of serious or informative content. As much as I love the idea of an overly serious set that rides the line between appropriate and ridiculous, I don't think there's a ton of added value to be gained in the space between there and where you are now.
