NES Works #070: Mega Man

Ah, that's more like it. It's been a long road, getting from there to here, but... Mega Man! A fine finale to 1987. Come to think of it, all three volumes of NES Works have ended on a strong note with Super Mario Bros., Gradius, and now this. I'm scared to look ahead in the syllabus. What if NES Works 1988 ends with some kind of, I dunno, Beam/LJN release? Dreadful.

For now, though, there's Mega Man, the culmination of everything we've seen in 1987. Maybe not the best game of the year, but one of the most ambitious and creative. That counts for a lot!

Thanks, 1987. You were swell.

Comments

I randomly bought Mega Man in December 1988 because I was unable to procure a copy of the Legend of Zelda. I had an odd penchant for having to buy a game (any game it seems) once I was at Woolworth's or Child World with cash in hand. This was my second attempt at buying The Legend of Zelda during that holiday season. My first purchase when coming up empty handed was 1942. I think I did much better with this Mega Men purchase, although I never could beat the game until I learned about NES emulators in 1997.

Now here's a great series!
