Good Nintentions Gaiden #04: The Goonies

I think this month is going to be a month of gaiden episodes — I'm going to be traveling for most of December and won't have time to invest in new capture and analysis of games. I promise I'll buckle down and get serious about Game Boy World (etc., but especially Game Boy World) in the new year, though.
This week, I've adapted and rewritten the Anatomy of The Goonies blog series into a video review. I actually had this finished and ready to go yesterday and told myself, "I'll send out the link for this as soon as I'm done with my review of The Last Guardian." Then the game ended up being much longer than I had been told and I didn't beat it until about 3 a.m. So much for that!
But here we go, belated but still, uh, benighted? No, that's not right. Well, anyway, please to enjoy.

I was a huge fan of The Goonies II, and when this popped up on a local PlayChoice-10 a couple of years later it was like a beam from heaven that started me on the road to realizing the actual international scope of video games as a business.

2016-12-06 13:01:40 +0000 UTCDiscovered this game earlier this year and absolutely love it. There's not a ton of substance but damn if it isn't charming as hell. It's especially fun with a microswitched arcade stick. The action is really well suited to arcade-style play. I can see why it was brought to the US for PlayChoice machines.
