My fun party trick

One of the reasons I started up Good Nintentions was to have an excuse to put together ridiculous footage no one else would ever bother to create. Like high-definition feed of light gun games played on real hardware... and this, wherein I've combined high-quality footage of Gyromite with an inset of R.O.B. that's synced up to the video. Gyromite in an emulator is a very different experience than Gyromite played properly, and while this isn't some timeless classic everyone needs to undertake for themselves, the full R.O.B. experience has become incredibly difficult to reproduce. So, hopefully, this works as a record of how precisely R.O.B. functioned and how his actions affected the game (both in terms of in-game actions and the overall pacing of the game).

This footage is not very fun to watch, but hopefully it will be a valuable resource for others.

At some point, I gotta do Stack-Up, too. Aiyah.

This is great footage. I've never seen a ROB in action. You are doing everyone a great service here, if only because those of us with less patience will never have to fiddle with one to gain some understanding of the experience.

It is. I can't tell you how pleased I am to see you taking the time to preserve it. I'm still floored that we're 30 years past R.O.B.'s release and much like the Virtual Boy and the E-Reader could well be lost to history.

Joey

Don't sweat it — I didn't know how R.O.B. works until I got him set up for this video. It's a forgotten and increasingly esoteric corner of game history.

Sweet! Although my old school credibility is a little sore, I'm pleased that I don't have a robust investment ahead of me. Thank you!

Joey

R.O.B doesn't require cables! He runs on batteries, and his gyros use the second controller to open and close switches. So you should be good.

Jeremy Parish

That was strangely but wonderfully enthralling. I've been meaning to order R.O.B. cables for ages to get mine moving again and seeing him in synced action got me in the childhood and likely just spent even more money on my retro setup. Thank you for doing this, I'm jazzed to see a R.O.B. in action again.
