Game Boy World #061 is here, and change is in the air

Wow, this video took surprisingly little time to create. Wish they all could go that quickly, but I always overcomplicate things. Card Game is a fairly unexciting way to wrap up January, but there's some interesting stuff in the pipeline for February, during which I hope to wrap up Game Boy World 1990 Pt. 1 (Jan.-June 1990). After that... mystery abounds! As well as a book.

As a reminder, beginning Monday, early video access will be moved to the $2 support tier, while most other tiers will be coming down in price. I'm hoping that the loss from people at higher tiers switching to a lower contribution level will even out with people at the basic level moving up. It is, of course, entirely possible that this will be a huge disaster and it'll become much harder to fund Game Boy World et al.! But, fingers crossed.

Ah, I see. Makes sense, from a technical standpoint, and I suppose it's not so much English as to make the game impossible to understand. Still seems strange, but I guess there is a good reason for it. Thanks for the response.

It's all western card games. And the 26-character Latin alphabet requires a lot less storage space than Japan's 50-odd-character syllabaries. Made more sense to go this route for games with minimal text; Japanese kana only saves space if there's a lot of in-game text (kana requires more hard coded characters to work with, but expresses language with fewer of those characters).

If this only ever came out in Japan, why is the whole thing in English? I know there is a long tradition of certain words from English being commonly used, but this entire game appears to be in what would be, to a Japanese player, a foreign language. Any idea what the story is?
