Campaign changes in effect
Added 2016-01-21 14:48:42 +0000 UTCHi everyone, I've made the previously mentioned changes to the Patreon campaign. No one's contribution amount has been affected (I'll leave that up to you), but aside from the base contribution change moving from $1 to $2, the reward tiers have shifted to lower the bar for getting the regular physical books and PDFs.
I'll continue to make early video material visible for everyone who's still at the $1 level through the end of the month. Beginning Feb. 1, though, you'll have to bump up to $2 to see early videos. Again, this is the only tier that's actually risen—every other tier actually offers more for the amount. I crunched production and shipping numbers and came up with the need to make the other tiers $1-2 more than originally planned, but again, you'll now need to contribute LESS to get PDF/print editions of the Game Boy World (etc.) books than you did before. It seems like no one really wants exclusive backer-only online material, but the books are very popular, so that made the most sense.
Another important change: I will be distributing PDFs and physical books to backers before they're available via Amazon. I hate that I've been so slow getting those out in the past!
Finally, I've also added a single patron slot at the $50 level in the event someone wants to fund videos outside the standard console chronology series format. After four months of those contributions, I'll make a video on pretty much whatever you like provided it's in good taste and I have the means to produce a project on that subject!
Oh, and I reorganized the goals. Assuming these changes don't cause the campaign to slip below $1000, I'll begin producing Lynx and N64 videos soon. At $1500 per month, Anatomy of Games returns as a video series. And if, somehow, we could hit $2K per month (unlikely, but who knows), I'll throw Super NES and Genesis into the mix. Because why not?
Thanks for your support, and again, you have until Feb. 1 to edit your pledge amount.

Hi Jeremy, is there still a way to purchase any of your Anatomy books in PDF format?

2016-01-23 18:02:15 +0000 UTCI removed a bunch of tiers and adjusted/edited the remaining ones. I changed the $5 tier to $6, but I also got rid of the $10 tier and moved its reward (PDFs) to the $6 tier. It can be a little confusing, but the upshot is that there are fewer levels now, and each one has a clear reward. Plus, beyond the $2 tier, all levels now receive the rewards that previously belonged to a higher support level.

2016-01-23 17:47:57 +0000 UTCI'm confused--it looks like all the tiers went up a dollar. Was that intentional? Or did you mean everyone who gets the early videos, regardless of tier, is paying an extra dollar? Regardless, the "$6.00+" tier's copy still says "five U.S. dollars," so I'm not going crazy that something happened... It'd be worth it if you need it, just want to be sure before I kick it up.

2016-01-23 02:46:31 +0000 UTCThe first few were good! It just wandered off-course along the way. And I definitely think video is the way to go from here on out. That said, Metroid Fusion turned out well, so I expect to put together a Zero Mission series to complete the 2D Metroid games.

2016-01-21 20:52:45 +0000 UTCJust to say I loved Anatomy too! You self-deprecate but I really think your analysis of level design was measured and insightful. I've actually read through most of the full game runthroughs more than once.
