Back when they were fighting Metterand at the monastery, Lucian complained about how Aurelia suddenly became dumb once she joined the good side. Here, we clearly see he was wrong. She's got cutscene level plot armor, getting to just walk up and rip off Belcourt's arm. Hopefully she keeps some of this plot armor going forward. Also, I don't think Lucian will be able to publicly reveal his engagement, even when the two of them go back to attending the collegium. Because revealing it would piss off Algard. So they are going to have to be 'secretly' engaged.

2026-02-03 08:32:18 +0000 UTCSo, as a new trump card, Belcourt decided to recruit a shrewd, lying, corrupt politician, who bases his actions not on morality of loyalty, but on whatever he feels is necessary. One who is the MC's 'father', who personally hates Belcourt, and who is also in love with someone on the side of good. Belcourt must not read much fiction, because Cyril is so perfectly set up to get redemption by death while betraying the demons. I wonder if protecting Dinah played any part in Cyril's choice? Now, the demons won't be trying to assassinate her, as retribution for turning them down (and being a former inquisitor). I can guess at a couple benifits of that arm. It likely has more functionality than any other inquisitor's mark. Potentially no artificial limits in it, as lesser marks may have, to prevent people from using the full potential of the mark, or from studying and reproducing the magic. It potentially has the ability to bind human souls within it as well. Not to mention all the demon energy that Lucian can suck up from it.

I have no illusions that she's actually a particularly good person, but she has very good reason to believe that Lucian is the winning team and she's his bound left hand. Riding the team good gravy train, as soon as the demon invasion is over she'll be at the top of the world

This is something that will make it extremely unlikely for the demons to take her back even if she did change her mind later. So hopefully Lucian will finally be able to trust her enough to remove her seal and have her prisoner status loosen up a bit so some proper development can take place without their power dynamic making things weird.
