Redemption Arc 98

Right? This is now one of my favorite fights followed by Brutus vs Lucian, and Metterand+Belhazek vs Lucian+Monastery

rn

ahhhhh that was crazy. love how this battle was written 🔥

Arexio R.

There were probably a dozen weird things going on for him. Like why they buffed his magic, and how he got poisoned (I bet he's super poison resistant). Everything that happened at the end was so quick he probably didn't even understand.

Michael Vonica

Villeth was probably incredibly livid, "How the fuck am I healing him?"

Rebel

So, where's Belcourt? He saw Brutus fighting on the bridge. I don't think he has any special magic to spy from a distance. He should be just waiting out of the settlement? I doubt he's going to try rushing in here to finish the job. Not after everything went so horribly. Do the demons have any more tricks to play?

Michael Vonica

Love the idea of just kicking this demon into the ocean since he's so invulnerable to direct damage.

Thought Alagard was just going to kick a hole through the demon, not into the next state lol

WarStrider72

I am surprised that revenge attack move wouldn’t be enough to kill him.

Banger. Ty for the chapter! 🫡

I think it is fine if some fights are very gamey. I read Villeth to be mainly one of those enemies in games where they have high HP and Counter. So anything that doesn't do enough dmg or attack in some other way may cause someone to lose a unit. I think Brutus survived solely from the fact he didn't really attack, and I feel like this fight is also a good setup for showing the game logic being stretched to its fullest. I do feel, if author wants to go this way, that having Lucian fail due to deviation from script can be interesting. It went well with Villeth, but maybe next time it doesn't... Lastly, as I think was also mentioned in-chapter, someone is going to have some explaining to do... as no one will accept half truths for how they beat Villeth.

Really amazing. Although, this one felt very gamey. I'd compare it to a peasant railgun. I'm surprised that Brutus survived that long against a full powered Villeth, while also still being too weak to kill a heavily weakened Villeth. I guess Villeth's best stat is hp? And he can just tank through anything that comes at him, killing his enemy through attrition alone, if nothing else. And it's surprising that Lucian could just keep healing Brutus that whole time. I suppose his Formless Essence plays a part in that. It effectively doubles his mana pool and regeneration. His all around super high affinities likely also play a large part, in making all his spells so effective and long lasting. Edit: Alright, a couple more things I noticed. Lucian could only keep going because Denzel was shoving mana potions down his throat, so as soon as those ran out, they would be out of healing. Also, looks like they were doing basically zero damage to Villeth, just not dying. Can't the Sceptum only hold holy spells? I guess Lucian cast the debuffs as holy spells, if they weren't already, and that's how he stored them in there. Interesting how he can pick and choose how to mash spells together. Fear still activates the same, but now it heals. Debuffs still debuff, but are now superficially holy.

Michael Vonica

Ooh that was good shenanigans, abusing layer upon layer of mechanics and skills. The buildup did a good job of not revealing the trick while also being an interesting and fun fight scene, way too often authors wreck a scene to preserve a payoff but you nailed it imo

Nice! Using fire emblem affinity between companions, what is Lucian's affinity with everyone? I feel Brutus is at least A rank.
