Spiffy Splash Update

Comments

I bought a mill in Titusville once.

Bruce Perry

Congrats you guys. Hopefully the prop damage won’t cause a balance issue. I’m on my return leg home now on the ICW and currently anchored near Oriental. If you stay inside on the way here, I found the Bob track very helpful but not perfectly accurate. Try to time the inlets with a high tide if possible. It gets pretty skinny on some of them. That’s from Savannah heading to Oriental. Have fun. Be safe.

Mike P

We are all keen to hear of updates and some sort of tracking to follow your journey, with Athena you used Marinetraffic.com it was easy and accurate to follow along, lots of questions, how's the engines performing, what speed you doing, how's the steering, anyhow here is hoping that you respond.

Hi Guys, how's the adventure north going on Spiffy? I’m concerned no updates could be a sign you’rw not having a boring trip up the ICW. Do we need to raise bail money or organize help for some other unexpected hurdle? ;)

Devnull

Always look forward to updates on your project, cheers and thanks for all your good advice in previous videos. We hope to be in the water in two months after three years.

shane wood

Congrats! Looking forward to this intermediate adventure and then back to more somewhat extensive refitting... I like how there's this splash in the middle of the plot. It's a change of pace.

Charles Neuman

🤙🤙

Conrad Logan2

Amazing. What a milestone to get Spiffy back in the water. Looking forward to NC!

Matt Fish

Congratulations on getting Spiffy in the water and safe travels north!

John Pointer

Congratulations and safe travels!!

I wasn't sure about your explanation of the incident but did you wait until the slings had been removed from under the boat before starting the engine? Or at least putting it in gear? Did you look at the straps to see if they had any damage to them? Normally, the primary check on launch is just to see if the boat is leaking anywhere. Engine starting problems are unrelated to the launch of the boat and can be handled after the boat is free of the travel lift straps, or in this case the crane lift straps. It looks like the straps were passed under the hull and over the shafts. Were the noises you heard the sounds of the disconnected strap being pulled through that gap across both shafts? Perhaps the big shackle flung around and contacted the props as it passed through? You will need to plan for how to lift this boat with a travel lift without having to go into the water with a snorkle and mask to route those sling straps through manually. When fixing up your boat in NC, I would make a "To Do" Post-It for marking the lift strap positions on the rub rail for future use. Hope those strap buckles didn't mar that finish on your hull! ;) If you have some ratchet straps to throw over the canopy in two directions, it could add to your peace of mind, or just remove the canopy when high winds are expected at night.

That sucks about the prop strike and I hope you can keep hold of your tent. You're heading in the right direction though. Spiffy looks good in the water.

Todd Romain

Well done for getting in the water and sorry to hear about the prop strike :(

Jack Andrys

Well hopefully the bad luck is behind you. I wonder what you hit...given the crane with all the lines dangling and such. Is it possible the "professionals" did this leaving something behind / still attached? Weird that it would be BOTH engines. Sounds like a line across the hulls, just saying.

Joseph Orr

So no engine or transmission damage when you had the prop strike?

Troy

Good luck on the run up north. Can you get the props straightened out?

Alex Blinkhorn

Congratulations. Big accomplishment! Can’t wait to see what you do next!😀

Marvin Rush

Yea! Congrats! You have to be just over the moon :) Amazing feat and so much work. Cooler times ahead :) Safe travels!

Heidi and Franny Sailing

Stoked you’re floating!! Very exciting! I’ll need a root cause analysis and to review the change management docs you submitted for this evolution.

Chad Towner

Congrats on the splash! On to the next adventure 🥳

Remnar

That's tremendous! Whoohoo. Progress Hoping you guys have an uneventful trip up the ICW.

Kent Tobias

Have you found the problem with the port engine, fuel perhaps ?, safe travels.

keith Mcintosh

Hoohoohoorrraayyy

Mike McCollough

So nice to be in the water! Hope you guys enjoy all the different sights smells and sounds on your journey, including Spiffy's new found mobility. What a lucky boat to go from hurricane to loving hands. Keep up the great work and thanks for taking us along! :)

Jeffrey and Mary Kersey

You are making memories.

Jim Compton

So glad to hear about a Spiffy splash. Sounds like the crane guys were great. Have a great trip up the ICW.

Rod Halpert

Great news, safe travels up the ICW.

Jason Irvine

Good stuff.. Glad it didn't sink... lol

Joseph Brzezinski

Congratulations!! Bummer about the prop, but it could have been so much worse. Safe travels up the ICW.

Tim Parsons

I’m happy for you both. Congratulations on being able to take this big step forward.

Kirkflys

I’m hoping you have a safe, relaxing and uneventful trip north. I like the “wash me” inspired “Sail Life” scribed on the side ;)

Devnull

Great news! So glad to see this boat back in the water.

Michael Wilcox

Congrats guys!!!! So exciting to take this next step!

G Shazam

Congrats guys! Can’t tell you how impressed I am with your PM skills to get here so quickly. Truly impressive. Despite the prop damage. Sorry to hear about that, it tarnishes an otherwise great milestone. Easy fix fortunately and not critical for the passage north.

Carson Hanrahan

Best wishes for a safe journey!

Vance Foster

Yay! Spiffy! That’s just… spiffy!
