The chicken scene is a wink to the fact that the drama is normally a gay drama. In China, the groom gives a healthy chicken to his wife is a sign of love and longevity over time (if I remember correctly but I know that it is symbolic in the union) so the fact that Lan Zhan gives chickens to Wei Wuxian is a wink to Lan Zhan's feeling for Wei Wuxian
