I am a living example of this. I am Schizoaffective but also have Chronic PTSD. I received approval from my Psychiatrist to use Medical Marijuana for PTSD. I've tried twice to use it for a period of two weeks each time. Both times have not had good results. The second time I actually thought my husband had a conspiracy going on with the state to have me institutionalized and take my son from me. I say No to Medical Marijuana for me.

we're finding out now that cannabis can exacerbate symptoms in people with schizophrenia, and while it's not a true psychedelic. I think for people with disorders that manifest in psychosis, altering their consciousness is likely contraindicated. I work with clients who have SMI (serious mental illness) designation, and I encourage folks with psychosis symptoms to transition to CBD if they have been using cannabis for anxiety or pain relief since CBD isn't psychoactive.

that's an interesting idea, but there's a significant potential for trauma/harm from seeing oneself in that state. Not to mention when people are in an elevated state of psychosis, it may not be ethical to film them or they may not be in a position to give informed consent.

Aside from new medication there are also some new psychological techniques being attempted. One being filming patients talking about themselves and at a later date playing this back to them. Where patients lack insight into their psychosis the playback may be stimulating other regions of the brain into giving them greater self awareness.
