My Experience with Mental Illness & University

My Experience with Mental Illness & University

This video so so relatable, last month I had to leave my course because of my mental health with only 3 months to go until I finish. And my experience in education as someone living with psychosis has been pretty rough, I always end up in situations, like you mentioned, where I completely grasp the work, but putting it down on paper turns into me sitting at a laptop until 4am and getting overwhelmed and frustrated with myself because I can't put my thoughts into words. Last year is the first time I (as you put it) limped my way through a course and ended my course with oral questions instead of written assignments. But I've faced other issues with pursuing education, like having to pay for taxis to the buildings, because I don't feel safe on public transport, and having to pay over £25 per day on travel, or being able ti write assignments every week while struggling to focus on anything and having panic that I'm going to fail because j can't force myself to write what's in my head. I really appreciate hearing your experience, and I now feel motivated to try again in September to finish my course!

Great video Lauren, but sorry to hear you have had some negative experiences with your supervisor. You are certainly not alone - academia is indeed cut throat and changes are urgently needed. Ultimately, it's their loss because they are missing out on working with smart, capable talented people like you. Best of luck with your new baby and I hope you find a way to return to study when you are ready.

Once again, Lauren, I appreciate your courage and ability to candidly express your experiences!
