Blooper (I Got the Hiccups)
Added 2024-08-23 21:00:07 +0000 UTC
This was yesterday so I'm fine now, but enjoy this blooper of me getting the hiccups mid recording session. I finished the Q&A though yay! THE SHOW MUST GO ON!
there is an ancient method in our country.Take a sip of water first, don't swallow it, then face the floor and start inhaling through the water until you can't do it anymore, then your hiccups will stop.

Ohk so for future reference, and it may sound dumb, if you have peanut butter in your house eat like a teaspoon of that. Like 100% success rate for me

That was too freakin’ cute. Laugh at your pain I did 😂 thanks for sharing. I hope your hiccups went away. I think the record for longest hiccups was 68 years so…

Water is usually the only thing that helps
Though sometimes I hold my breath for a while and that works

the only solution that ever works for me is just taking really deep breaths in and out 😌

Hiccups is typically caused by an irritated diaphragm or by stimulated vagus/phrenic nerves. To relax these, there are several tricks one can try:
- Controlled breathing techniques (e.g. breathing into a paper bag)
- Swallowing techniques (e.g. small sips of cold water, drinking upside down)
- Vagal stimulation (e.g. holding your breath, gently pulling on your tongue, gargling cold water)
- Pressure (e.g. applying gentle pressure on your diaphragm, holding the knee-to-chest position for several minutes)
- Distraction, so focusing on something other than your hiccups (easier said than done, I know)
I hope anybody could pick up a few new tricks to get rid of this annoyance quicker 🫶
P.S. If hiccups persist for more than 48 hours, one should consult a health care professional.

Hold your breath for as long as possible, and try and drink a glass of water upside-down.

In my family it was always hold your breath and swallow 3-5 sips of water (or spit doesn’t matter really) and usually that would work pretty well

the hiccups come from when food didn't go all the way down to the stomach, so chugging a glass of water washes it down. thing is, your body sometimes thinks there's food when there isn't. thankfully, the body thinks the food that isn't there is washed down when drinking water. you're welcome :)
