I have my guard up regarding men from what I have seen from my friends/relatives. But I fell for the same manipulative tactics from a boss. Itâs much easier to leave a job, because you don't have intimate feelings; family; and other attachments. So I have a lot of empathy for people who are stuck in this cycle of abuse.

I stayed at a job for way too long for a boss that would go from being completely derogatory and then completely be nice/kind a day later. It wasnât until my new co-worker pointed it out that it finally downed on me that I was basically in an abusive relationship. There were other factors that led me to staying far longer in the job - (I was in a different country; I worked really hard to get my foot in the door in a tough industry; etcâŠ). But I also believed that my boss would change and do the things she said she would do because of all the âniceâ things she did for me at that time (i.e., visit me in the hospital when I got sick). But 70 percent of the time, she was horrible to me and the other people in the office.
