I really appreciate you explaining this to me. That helps SO much. It wasn’t so clear in the show. I’m not sure why.. but you have cleared up a lot for me including lord John’s part of the story

There is some concern for John in the books but not a great deal. Firstly, because John is much like Jamie (though they don't show it well in the show) in that he's an excellent swordsman, brave, crafty, LOTS of military experience and also has experience in espianage. So they figure he can handle himself. Secondly, there is so much else happening with the British evacuation of the city, Jenny and Claire were sort-of holding John's brother Hal hostage (but also treating him for severe asthma) and soldiers were coming around looking for him and John. Plus, Jamie was busy making preparations to be a general (he was only given 3 days to report back to the continental army). It was chaotic.

Jeremiah ak Rogers dad did die in the underground with Roger’s mom, but him being there saved Roger’s life. So if Buck & Roger didn’t find him and send him back, then Roger would have died! Very time travel intertwined. (This is all in a side book called A Leaf in the Wind of All Hallows, about Jeremiah’s story. It has Frank Randall in it too, he is the MI6 officer who sends Jeremiah on the classified mission!)
The reason his dad was never identified among the dead in the underground was because Roger still had his dog tags & there was no one to identify him.
