The Expanse 6x3 Full Reaction

Everything going on in Laconia is freaking me out! What does it all mean?! (Please don't answer that question lol)

Because we have 3 more episodes to go until the finale, I wanted to post 1 episode reaction until we get to the end of the series.

The Expanse 6x3 Full Reaction

I know you've already finished the series and I've just been slowly catching up, but I really love how they show exactly how Filip finally realised just who his father was in this episode, and what finally caused him to stand up. In Season 5 Naomi said to him "I know that he wouldn't die for you, but he would let you die for him". In this episode we see just that with "I would rather die than live at the end of your leash". Marco knows he will be made a martyr and his cause and name will live on, just as he always wanted. And if his son dies in the process of that? Well that's just fine by him.

It's cool you recognized the Martian Navy lady from season 3, not a lot of reactors remember that character when watching season 6. When Marco is explaining his decision to abandon Ceres to Fliip, Marco says that the Ceres belters are not "real belters", that they're too well off and have served the Inners for generations. Marco doesn't consider Ceres belters true belters because he thinks they were too soft and wealthy compared to other belters. I think that's what he was saying. Ceres does seem like the nicest place in the belt, Marco grew up on Pallas station and that place seems awful. So in addition to hating Earth and Mars , Marco doesn't seem to care for Ceres either.

Your thoughts on Holden's decision to disarm the torpedo at the last minute speak well of your humanity and empathy. A lot of people, while appreciative of Holden's difficult position, have felt it was ultimately the wrong decision. There he goes again, people think, doing that whole ill-advised paladin thing. Holden being Holden. But I think there's more to it than that. Sure, on one hand, it's true that Holden saved Naomi the pain of watching her son die before her eyes, but at the likely cost of a lot more death and suffering throughout the system, because it will extend Marco's war. So one way of looking at this would be that Holden made a selfish decision, focusing on his own comfort and that of his loved ones instead of the "greater good." But then, maybe it isn't that simple. What if this act teaches Filip something about compassion? Filip may be the eventual future of the Inaros faction, so maybe longer term, the system is better off with a Filip Inaros who is a future leader who knows the value of compassion and empathy than as someone who is just a footnote in a war story, a guy who basically joined his terrorist father in martyrdom. It's an interesting dilemma, a bit of a "trolley problem," if you will, and I don't think the answer is quite as cut and dried a some people would like to view it. I don't know what I would have done in Holden's position... he had to make it in a split second, and I think decisions like that are bound to reflect someone's innate instincts rather than the result of a lengthy evaluation of plusses and minuses. You can debate whether it was the right call or the wrong one, but whatever it turns out to be, I think it was entirely in keeping with Jim's worldview. About the Laconia story line: These events are largely adapted from the novella "Strange Dogs," which was published between the sixth and seventh (main) books of The Expanse series. The novella served, in part, as a bridge between the the story to date (through the end of this book/season) and the story that takes place in the last trilogy (books 7-9) of the series, and the scenes adapted from it basically do the same thing. You will get answers to most of your questions before the season is out, but you also may well end up with unanswered questions that leave you wanting more. And I think that was intentional. But there will be a conclusion of that story line, at least a conclusion of sorts.
