season 5 was my favourite season of this show, the naomi story line was so damn good

2024-09-21 00:30:10 +0000 UTCThe Belters swayed by Marco look at Naomi as a sellout for working with the Inners. That's why they're not happy that she "got out" because they're still living in this unfair and oppressive system. They feel they shouldn't have to sellout or change in order to get fair treatment. When someone gets radicalized, it will narrow their view and nuance goes out the window. Their anger at their situation is not wrong or unreasonable. It's like what Sam said in "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," when he said something like, "I sympathize with your fight, but I can't get behind HOW you're fighting it." I read from commenters when I first watched it that the Belters, especially, are very polyamorous and are about the connections to one another and sharing. Hence Drummers crew all sleeping together. They said something in the previous episode about when you share your cup, your cup will be filled more. They wear their hearts on their sleeves. It's kinda like they are generous with their family and extend that concept out to all Belters, which is why they call each other beratna. Andersen Dawes said something similar. This doesn't stop terrorists on their side from killing other Belters though because they justify them as sacrifices for the greater good of the Belt. One thing great about this show is that no side or faction is completely clean. It's all messy and that's kinda the point. How do we navigate this messy life? The best we can. How many casualties can we tolerate and still be considered good or on the right side? "As little as possible."

Yes, it's a willful ignorance with no foresight involved and it frustrates the hell out of me as someone who is extremely logic oriented too. But the fact is, many people would rather ignore what's to come because of the short term being easier, or it being the devil they know.
