The Expanse 1x9 & 1x10 Full Reaction (S1 Finale)

RE: The bird, I always took it as visual symbolism for Julie's connection to the belt. Birds are from earth, yet this one's been brought to the belt, living life in the belt, under the conditions in the belt, surviving. And Miller, as he learns more about her, thinks of the bird when reminded of that connection and what she was trying to do for belters. I do like the unreliable narrator aspect of ep 9's opening. Julie calls out to Dawes asking for rescue, and assumes that because he doesn't respond, that he didn't do anything. In truth, she sent a hail to Dawes, and he forwarded that to Fred Johnson to assist (who, in turn, sent the Roci crew), since the Cant's destruction caused upheaval on Ceres and his primary goal was always independence, so he was tied up dealing with that. It's just that they were too late in getting there to help. Eros IS very large. In the show, it had a pop of over 100k. In the books, it was over 1M. And yeah, Chrisjen is put in an interesting position at the end of S1, walking a perilous tightrope while keeping her newfound political enemies close.

Enjoying doing a rewatch with your reaciions. Amos is deadly. Good riddance Kenzo.

So the thing built on earth was the drives used by the Stealth Ships not the Protomolecule. The Protomolecule's origin is Phoebe which is where all the "Phoebe Station" talk comes from. S2 will answer more about the Protomolecule. One thing this show does is answer all the questions you'll come up with throughout your watch through. You were indeed right about the guy Miller shot in the end, he was the same guy that staked Havelock! Eros is fairly big, it housed 100,000+ Belters! S2 is going to up the ante by a 100 so hold on to your seat! Just when you think you've seen some crazy stuff...The Expanse is going to one up it each time as the seasons play out! Looking forward to your ride in S2!

I was about to mention, that's a very good observation

You're the first reactor to get that Miller has a weaker immune system and body from being a belter and Holden doesn't being an Earther!

And there are more great, strong, complex female characters to come throughout the show!

In a show full of outstanding characters Amos is one of the best characters in sci-fi, just overall. Both for the writing and acting (and Wes Chatham seems to be a genuinely great guy as well). Such a complex character, and a great arc.

Also there's a funny easter egg the writers put in. When they're mentioning the criminal gangs one gang is called "Dos Arriagas" This is a Simpsons reference. There's an episode where the Simpsons see a soccer game commercial and the players on the soccer team are "Arriaga 1", another player is "Arriago 2." The joke was that they were 2 soccer players with the same name. 2 Arriagas = Dos Arriagos. In other words the Expanse writers named a criminal gang after a dumb joke from the Simpsons. This has been confirmed by the author of the Expanse books twitter account. Every season the writers put a Simpsons reference into the show. I couldn't resist mentioning that dumb pointless trivia.

Correct, the bald guy Miller executed was the guy who stabbed Miller's partner. In episode 2 the street punk Diogo mentioned to Miller that most of the gang members had left Ceres Station. Now we know where they went. The gang members were recruited to be private security on Eros to help with the awful experiment. If the ending seems a bit abrupt, it's because this is not the ending of book 1. This episode takes place about 2/3rds of the way through book 1. The real conclusion of the book 1 is a couple episodes into season 2. The dust spinning like a corkscrew is another example of the Coriolis effect, the gravity is weird like that because Eros station is spinning which feels like gravity for the people inside, but it's like a spinning corkscrew gravity. I think. Eros kind of looks like a potato, or a peanut with the shell still on. Eros station is a real asteroid in the Belt, it really looks like how it's depicted in the show, minus the human colony on it. It's big, 34 kilometers/21 miles long. Ceres is crazy big too, its 940 kilometers in diameter which is like 1/4 of the moons diameter. Ceres is the largest asteroid in the Belt. The guy who Chrisjen now suspects is Errinwright, that's her boss. He's the deputy secretary-general of the UN, essentially he's the vice president of earth. Anyway loving these reactions, can't believe season 1 is done.

Ep 9, the beginning is how the Cant went boom. And the show explains more of what that creepy stuff is later on. It does not however explain the bird connection, or how Julie saw Miller right before she died. The books might though, but I have yet to read that yet. I'm sure all the different outfits was Shohreh Aghdashloo's, Avasarala's actress favorite part of the show, I hope she was allowed to keep a few of those outfits haha. Yep, they are spreading it on purpose. Julie was never part of the plan but it still worked out for them in the end. And yes they are that evil. A lot of inners, Earthers and Martians, in charge don't see belters as equals to them. The story is full of parallels to racism, oppressor and the oppressed, etc. The stuff they found feeds off energy to grow and function, it's why Julie was smashing the lights and TV and why they were using radiation. The more energy it gets, the more stuff it does. The show, especially the first 2 seasons, has a lot of stuff that isn't explain until a few episodes later. So don't feel like you missed something just because it hasn't been explained yet. And yes the shot was just the weird fungus stuff, was certainly not any iodine or anything else to help Eros' citizens. Can't answer your last question about why they are doing it without spoiling things, but certainly am looking forward to you discovering it!
