The Expanse 1x1 & 1x2 Full Reaction

A rewatch for you to better abosrb info doesn't hurt. A lot of info to take in. I struggled with that. Fortunately, you soak in the info gradually over the episodes. The actor as the Ceres cop looking for the young lady was the lead character having the big penis in the HBO series Hung (2009) (3 seasons).

The sign language bit- the belters use sign language mixed into their spoken language because they have to be fluent in it… in their lives, if you are in a space suit and the radios don’t work quite right visually signals are the only option when communication is the difference between dealing with a problem and death.

Is it me, or is your audio low?

So excited for this. Just watched 1x1, about to watch 1x2, got a little bit of a real-life space info dump here but it might help with appreciating the show. It's not necessary to know, but you might find it helps—or might not, in which case, freely disregard and just enjoy the show :) The Expanse is very rooted in the real-world "geography" of the Solar System. "Ceres" station that they keep referring to, where Miller is based, is a station built on the real-world dwarf planet Ceres, which is a planetary body in the Asteroid Belt. Ceres, funnily enough, was almost a Pluto-before-Pluto, in that when first discovered, it was considered a Planet for something like half a century before being reclassified. Many of the random names they have for locations in space that you might not recognise will turn out to be real moons, asteroids, etc, if you look them up. Here's a little image of major bodies from the Sun out in the solar system, including major moons of various planets: https://www.deviantart.com/gazomg/art/Solar-System-Map-883651599 This Wikipedia page has an image near the top which outlines the position of significant bodies in the solar system. When thinking of how bodies relate to each other in the solar system, it's best to think in terms of how close or far a body's orbit is from the sun. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outline_of_the_Solar_System So in the first episode, The Canterbury is mining ice out towards Saturn, and then they are heading back to Ceres, so they head sunward past the orbit of Jupiter, with the aim of aligning their orbit with the Asteroid Belt. In episode 2, they mentioned being near Ganymede—one could easily just process that as an arbitrary name of some fictional location, but Ganymede is in fact a moon of Jupiter (also the largest moon in the solar system), so that tells you a little about how far into their Journey from Saturn to Ceres they were at the time of the incident. That's a little oversimplified given that orbital bodies can be much further away or closer to each other depending on how their orbits line up at a given time, but considering it that deeply isn't really warranted for the story of The Expanse at any point that I recall. Of course, knowing this isn't at all necessary for watching the show, but personally, I like orienting myself in terms of how everything is situated in relation to things when brought up. Very much looking forward to your next reactions :)

Another thing i'll add, as you say most of the questions will eventually be answered, but one thing they don't really explain for a while is what the OPA is. The OPA stands for Outer Planets Alliance. It's sort of a loose conglomerate of factions from people living in the asteroid belt, minor/dwarf planets like Ceres, Eros, Ganymede(moon of Jupiter) etc.

The Expanse has been called "Game of Thrones in Space" because like Game of Thrones it has a lot of characters, lots of different areas, lots of lore, and also based on a book series. It's a lot but you seem to be picking up a lot of stuff so far. Another cool thing about The Expanse is that these are real locations in our solar system. Ceres is a real asteroid in the asteroid belt. It's one of the largest objects in the belt. Also at around 37:10 video timestamp episode 2 the liquor pour looks weird because of the "coriolis effect" They are living inside of Ceres and Ceres spins creating gravity. So the gravity weirdness is do to the spin of Ceres, or something like that. Anyway most of your questions will be answered. Looking forward to this.
