They aren't the actual Cain and Abel. They are the story of the first brothers. Everything in the Dreaming is a story, and Dream is the reason stories exist. And this version of DC Comics is an off-shoot of the more main stream comics. They aren't exactly DC Comics, they are called Vertigo comics, and they are more adult stories set in the universe of DC. The Endless aren't gods because gods rely on belief. The Endless have always existed and always will because they are concepts personified. As long as there is existence, the Endless exist. There are seven of them.
