The big issue is society as a whole looks down on prisoners and people who have been to prison and it's conditioned a lot of us (me to some extent) to feel that way as wheel.) Of course like you said if you've committed heinous crimes than you deserve whatever is coming to you, but if you've killed to protect someone's life, sold or got caught with weed, etc then you deserve a second chance. So many people currently in the prison system deserve another chance at life. Not to be treated less than and to be mentally and physically broken.
