I've seen this episode so many times and it still always makes me cry every time.

So to answer the marriage question - the show takes place in 1987 before the time skips start. The first legal same sex marriage in the US was in 2004, and it wasn't federally recognized until 2015. However, before same sex marriage was legalized, in 2000 Vermont allowed Civil Unions, their attempt at creating a system that allowed same sex couples to attain some legal rights but not the same as marriage. So when Jamie says "our union is officially Civil", we know it's the year 2000. So we know that they were together for 13 years at least, which as narrator Jamie said, it was more than most get. That makes me feel slightly better that one died.

2022-11-10 07:25:50 +0000 UTCit was great re watching with you and hearing what you got from the show. the messages and feelings it brings out of us is just so powerful. im so excited for the hill house reaction whenever you get to them. haunting of hill house is my favorite!! but i still haven't watched midnight mass so not sure if it would still be my fav if i were to watch that now. i just love how all the mysteries and the story itself just unfolds and how things get revealed by the end of it, in both this and hill house. ughhh its just so good i really hope you like that one!!!
