As far as the possibility of those socioeconomic divisions, including the role of the enforcers within those, happening irl... Those already exist. To varying degrees in both the macro and micro senses. Ever since certain members of pretty much every society on earth found that immense power comes with hoarding and restricting access to much needed resources, there's been that constant dynamic throughout humanity after our hunter-gatherer days. What's scarier about the more contemporary version of where we seem to be headed is that the looming scarcity of resources due to overpopulation, climate change, etc. in the age of modern weapons... It's all pretty depressing. Let's just say that "The Haves" will be better off for a little while longer than "The Have Nots". Glad you're reacting to this epic story though. It's a series that I was not expecting to enjoy as much as I did.
