I appreciate the patronizing response, but I disagree. There are series released far earlier than Mushoku Tensei with similar aspects, tropes and such. And ‘modern isekai’ what is your definition for that? The 2010s when MT debuted? Even then it was several months after Re:Zero entered the scene. I looked at the sources cited in its wiki article and from what I can tell it didn’t do anything particularly original, just executed certain story telling elements better than others. It would be disingenuous to say that this one series is the ‘grandfather’ to an already well established sub genre.

This indicates that it is a newer version of the old concept of isekai stories. So while it can't be considered a grandfather of regular isekai, the modern anime power fantasy isekai it is by many considered "modern isekai". Many tropes and ideas presented in these shows where first popularized by Mushoku Tensei, therefore people consider it the grandfather. welcome to my ted talk xoxo

Such a gift to watch a show drawn like that. The 8,4 on IMDb and MAL are no joke ^^ Mushoku Tensei (the books) is pretty much considered the grandfather of modern Isekai and just got made into an anime last year. Mushoku Tensei inspired a lot of shows, such as Slime.
