I don't think Eren was distracting them. Because when a titan loses its head or has experienced significant damage to the brain, they need to regenerate first before they can continue. Like how the Female Titan kicked the Attack Titan's head off in season 1 and Eren got knocked out cold as a result. Eren needed to repair at least some of the damage first before he can continue to fight. Otherwise, I think he'd be trying harder to avoid Magath and Reiner.
