Man it's just really fucked. Like dealing with that type of trauma as an adult just fucks with you on so many levels. As a kid you still don't truly process what's happening to you but as an adult it all just hits you. Even worse how elliot just couldn't accept that his dad was doing those things to him so his mind created a version of him which is what he wished his dad was. Just mind blown lol

2022-01-16 08:07:06 +0000 UTCWhen you go back and see the flashback scenes with Elliot and his dad, they all take on a different context, especially the one where his dad asks Elliot to keep something as "our little secret." There's a completely and disturbing context to that line now.

I had researched Dissociative identity disorder and this show was one of the ones that I feel it made no sense the way it came about. The main aspects were it has to arise from when someone is really young because it's when their personality is really undeveloped, and the trauma has to be really heavy. It's usually this sort of abuse. Elliot's mental state never made sense to me with what he went through, like it was horribly abusive but to actually fragment your mind in this way it usually has to be worse. I was just in awe when they actually went for it in this episode and everything retrospectively madesense
