You're absolutely right about everything you said! The fact that "Doctor Champ" is not a real doctor was hinted at a couple of times though, like when he said he was just a therapy horse for example (the exact words elude me right now, but I'm pretty sure that reveal didn't come out of nowhere). Still, it was not stated outright and catching on to it early is pretty impressive.

The parents are really just basing their standards on what they themselves had to grow up with. One day you'll probably do that to your children. That, by the way, is a huge part of the whole point of this show.

Sometimes it can be hard to see outside of our own lived experience and accept someone else has a different path then us. As a parent the blinders are probably especially on as we raise our kids to learn how to deal with life so of course we take from our own experiences. Its unfortunate Todd has this disfunction in his family. I'm really proud of how Bojack took responsibility for Doctor Champ considering his mistake started the spiral, and also because its the kind thing to do. Sucks that its gonna apparently turn his life upside down though. I noticed you caught in the last episode that 'doctor' is just his first name before it was revealed here; great catch! Still gotta give Bojack props for dealing with all that stress and even some deeply rooted therapy in a bar and sticking to the club soda. I'm glad he's no longer just playing the victim and he's really doing the work to better himself.

I always love your bojack discussions. They're really good. The statement that holds true for parents is that they just don't understand. A lot of parents have these expectations for their kid's life and get so upset and frustrated with their kids when they aren't succeeding how they want them to. Success comes in so many different forms. In todd's case yeah he may not be rich or living a normal, stable life but he's so happy. He get's up everyday and goes on these wacky adventures and experiences so many things and that's enough for him. The main problem is parents we're basing success on an older era where making good money and having a nice home and so on and so forth were important but for a lot of people nowadays I believe that's not the be all end all goal for them. In my opinion, if you can find happiness in this crazy world in any form that you should stick with it even if other people don't understand or can't relate.
