Yeah

BetheSOUL

That's fair, and a good point. Even though the grail probably could return or recreate Irisvel (particularly being that she was a homunculus after all), it's more likely if anything it would've been just Illya; or even kept him in a dream state where he thought he was with the two of them. It's the grail, numerous possibilities I guess.

I don't think his future would have actually included Iri and Illya if he had accepted the grail (maybe Illya, but it's not really guaranteed). I think that was just the grail trying to protect itself by exploiting Kiritsugu's identification of the grail as being part of Iri's essence, and to a lesser extent of Illya's essence.

BetheSOUL

Question, if he had accepted the Grail, would Saber had been able to get her wish as well? How would that have played out? It also makes me wonder how Rider and Waver's wishes would been twisted.

BetheSOUL

Kiritsugu's curses are adding up like student debt. Lancer cursed him, the evil spirit inside the Grail cursed him, and I'm pretty sure Kirei cursed him too, right?

BetheSOUL

Damn I forgot how good this episode was.

Dune

He wanted to save the world. The Grail can only save the world with a method Kiritsugu himself understands. He has only ever killed the few to save the many, so that's all the Grail was going to do. Basically kill people on the lighter end of the scale over and over on a global scale, until the only people left would be Kiritsugu, Irisviel, and Illyasviel. Kiritsugu wasn't willing to pay that price of 6 billion lives for just the three of them. So he's going to destroy the Grail to keep anyone else using it, because whatever they wish for is going to be twisted by this messed up Grail.

Sharknessa

Kiritsugu's plan all along wasn't to destroy the grail. Essentially, his goal was to use the goal to end all wars and senseless violence... that was to be his wish, world peace basically (that's my understanding). But the grail can only grant your wish by a method you yourself could comprehend or have come up with. So, the grail's method meant sacrifice. Kiritsugu always sacrificed lives to save other lives... in this case, I think it meant sacrificing 6 billion people (or most of of humanity) to end wars, and he'd have Irisvel and Illya. Because he wasn't in agreement with it, he chose to sacrifice his future with Irisvel and Illya, and destroy the grail. He truly believed the grail could grant his wish, grant a miracle he couldn't achieve on his own, up till this point when he learned the truth.
