And now seeing how the Grail operates, he knew that whoever did get the grail (and remember most of them trying to get it are at least a little evil) would have their wish twisted in a similar way, so the safest bet would be to destroy it.

2021-04-15 16:34:54 +0000 UTCI guess the main thing is that Kiritsugu couldn't figure out a way to save the world in his own mind that made sense. So, when he asks the Grail to "save people", it does it in the way Kiritsugu did, which was killing the few to save the many. But, enacted on such a large scale as the Grail is capable of, it would create "world peace" by killing everybody except Kiritsugu and his family. Kiritsugu could not accept this, and thus believes that by denied his family, and the grail, he WOULD be saving the world by stopping it from killing everybody. It's a little complicated at first watch, but destroying the Grail is the best move he can think of for his goals atm.
