Fair enough and true. He wasn't asking her to stop because he wanted her to stop being a feminist; but he was asking her to let that situation go which counts.

I mean...Mr Peanutbutter wanted her to not pursue the allegations about Hank, so he could keep his job and stay in ignorance. So to say he’s always let Diane be an outspoken feminist and do what’s important to her isn’t correct. They’re BOTH incredibly flawed (like we all are).

Great reaction and discussion! I know it can be hard to open up so bluntly but I appreciate you both speaking to us from the perspective of someone who has been adopted and someone whos dad had quite the character and experience.
I don't think Diane is trying to be the supportive wife for PB, she's just trying to co-exist and do her own thing as a writer. Still its got to be incredibly hard to deal with the whole campaign and the ex-wife manager. Her asking him to drop from the race is unfair as is trying to ruin his chances through her articles. He never asks her to stop being a writer or outspoken feminist.
The one time he didn't want her to take a trip she insisted on doing it anyway after getting in a big fight about it. This is the other side of the coin. He may not be the most well read on important issues but he wants to be Governor and is trying for his goal. But hey if it leads to passionate angry / make up sex then who am i to say what dynamic works or not for them.

Your thoughts on adoption and Hollyhock remind me a lot of the story of Finding Paradise, which is about an old man on his deathbed asking futuristic science to replace his memories of his life with one that he'll feel more content with when he dies, and it's more or less implied that while everyone has feelings of regret and feelings of satisfaction over their experiences, he only really started to focus on his discontentment in his life after he was made aware that this technology existed. The idea that he might've been missing something or that the grass might've been greener on the other side is what made him unhappy in his final days. Similarly, I feel like just the idea that you might have some connection to your biological parents is something that makes one think in that way, where that fact makes them wonder if the grass might be greener somewhere else.
