HEY! Merry christmas!!!!
I started making a last minute christmas outfit! Since the Icebell version I am today started late 2020, I did actually start making an outfit that I planned on rigging in Live2D, but then I ended up not doing that because time ran out. Because of this I feel like I kind of owe it to myself to finish a christmas outfit! This time I'm gonna do it in 3D in vroid though.
When I start making an outfit I usually think about what I want to make. For this I wanna make a dress inspired by a drawing I did for a christmas cover I was in this sunday! (This one: https://youtu.be/QPMftRz68eE) This dress is a light blue santa dress with a white trim and it has my cookies and sprinkles on it, and the hat is a santa hat, but double! Normally I do a little sketch to visualize the outfit better, but in this case I kind of already had a reference, so I just jumped into it!
I start with choosing the clothing I wanna use, in my case I'm using "Onepiece (Long Sleeve)". I modify the dress with the sliders on the right to get the shape I'd like, but I can still change it as I go to make the texture look right in the end. Then I just roughly draw on top of the dress in vroid, just to use that as a "blueprint" for what I'm gonna draw on the texture file, and where it needs to be. When I'm happy with how it looks, I export the blueprint file.
I normally use illustrator, so I throw the picture file into illustrator to work with it there, but you can use other editing programs like Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint, whatever works the best for what you wanna do! I find for my style, which is very cartoony(??) I think illustrator works perfectly for what I wanna make. I usually jump between illustrator and vroid, and I make lots of textures before I'm completely happy with the placement and the colors. I do this with the dress, shoes, skin, ribbon, and in this case pants, because I used pants to create boots by using the bottom part!
The hat is different, since it's made by me with the hair tool, which is just trial and error all the way until I find something that works. I usually use lots of layers! I did think about not making the hat in vroid, and instead make it by myself, but I'm not completely sure how you put 3D hats on vroid in other programs yet.. so I just made it in vroid lol.
The design turned out to be a little different than the reference, but I'm happy with it!! I hope you like this cute christmas ice cream!!!!! Feel free to ask any questions if you're curious about anything!
With that, I wish you happy holidays!!!!! Or as we say where I'm from, god jul!!!
