Uhtred is in a awkward position as he now finds himself allied with his family and kin who wish to finally conquer Wessex and kill Alfred. Not helped by Ragnar's cousin, Cnut who does not like Uhtred one bit. Also Brida remains skeptical while she help Uhtred by negating Skade's power with the sacred totem while here she also warns him not to betray Ragnar. Her relationship is strained as she cannot get pregnant, cannot give Ragnar sons. So he has children with other women, it's devastating that she can't be the wife and mother for the man she loves. So she ain't playing around when she says that she will kill Uhtred if he does betray his brother. Finan, Osferth & even Sihtric don't want war with Alfred but war is what it seems to be leading to. Things I imagine will only get more dire for Uhtred of Bebbanburg as the season continues. Thank You ladies for an entertaining reaction as always. Aethelred wants his wife and her daughter dead and I imagine it would look better if an outside party were responsible. Uhtred is bad shape after catching a spear in the back following his escape. Feverish and weak, Skade's curse is looking more and more likely as well as seeing ghosts as Leofric appears to him to admonish him for breaking his oath and dragging his men into this mess including his nephew. Finan wants Skade dead badly, but no one is willing to carry out it as Sihtric warns that curses can live on even after the one who threw it is dead. This rough journey leads them back to Durham and a reunion with Brida & Ragnar for Uhtred.

2021-01-22 06:53:35 +0000 UTCSo he holds Alfred at Swordpoint and that goes over well, with Aelswith screaming for Steapa to kill Uhtred while Aethelwold is ecstatic at this chaos. Uhtred has been loyal and faithful to Alfred but it never seems enough, still treated no better than a hound. Uhtred smacks him about before he and his men hightail it from Winchester, fugitives now. Alfred would of preferred this not to happen, but things spiraled out of control and now he must see this path through. He doesn't have much time left and unfortunately that means he has little patience and sympathy for anyone especially the problematic Half Dane Alderman whom has been his salvation and constant frustration equally. It's good that his children Aethelflaed and Edward trust and love Uhtred, so it's not totally improbable for the two men to end this feud. Speaking of feuds, Aethelwold does his best to stoke old ones as he conspires with Aethelred to be disloyal to Alfred and to "deal" with Aethelflaed and her daughter if he wants to be King of Mercia.

2021-01-22 06:44:17 +0000 UTCThings have gone off the rails ladies here in S3 of The Last Kingdom. Scheming, Shenanigans and Chicanery aplomb this episode. Aethelwold's plot begins in earnest getting Brother Godwin to slander Gisela's name when Uhtred is at the Witan for grave desecration and ends with Uhtred slapping him dead. The frail crippled monk is used to start the schism between Uhtred & Alfred as Alfred wants Uhtred to swear the oath of allegiance to Edward in exchange for not being punished for Godwin's death. It's too much for him with his wife's death, Skade cursing him and once again being robbed of his freedom.
