2021-01-01 06:35:29 +0000 UTCLancers backstory is important to understand the reason why he is in the grail war: Diarmuid Ua Duibhne is part of the Fianna, a warrior band of irish mythology and served Fionn Mac Cumhaill, the husband of Ghráinne. (we saw them in the flashback) Ghráinne was not happy with the marriage and asked Diarmuid to steal her away, of course Fionn Mac Cumhaill was not thrilled about that and hunted them down. But Fionn pardoned Diarmuid after some time and Diarmuid/Ghráinne lived happily together. Years later Fionn invited Diarmuid on a boar hunt, not taking his best weapons with him and facing a giant boar that already killed a lot of people, he was gored by it. Fionn had the ability to heal someone by letting them drink water out of his hands. As Diarmuid was dying, Fionn was gathering water, but he let it run through his fingers twice. By the third time Fionn gathered water to heal Diarmuid it was too late, as Diarmuid had already succumbed to his wound. Saber already mentioned the love spot/his mole when they first met: "Diarmuid was famous for his beauty, and for his 'love spot', which made him irresistible to women." That is why they showed that flashback. That is why he remarked that Sola-Ui had the same eyes as Ghráinne. That is why he said that fate is just too cruel. All he wants is to loyally serve his master, redeeming himself as a knight. But now history repeats itself. Again he serves a respected man who was betrothed to a woman who does not love him. Again that woman falls for Diarmuid due to his beauty and his love spot. And again that woman approaches Diarmuid to betray his master, begging him to take her with him. That is why he does not seek the grail. He only seeks the grail for his master. He wants nothing more than to be a good man and a loyal knight, something he was denied in his past life.
