2020-12-30 05:05:04 +0000 UTCThe reason Roswaal was beating the shit out of Subaru was because he doesn't know how Subaru restarts. He just knows that Subaru can restart. So if he doesn't know how, he can't afford to kill him, even though that is the way Subaru restarts. It also doesn't matter the timeline, Roswaal has known that Subaru can restart. You all missed an end credit scene where he basically confirmed that a few episodes ago, but he has dropped some hints throughout the story that he knows. But there is always a lot of things going on in Re:Zero, so sometimes it's easy to miss something. Especially since this show can be so detailed about seemingly random things sometimes.
