The Last Kingdom 2x6 Full REACTION!!

This is why Long Takes are so powerful, honestly, people really underrate them so much. I believe the reason is because people often view them as a gimmick. Well, please explain to me how that whole last Sequence is a gimmick. It's not, your eyes are glued to the screen, it puts you in the situation, there are no jagged cuts, there is no forced perspective. You're allowed to experience & soak up the information as it happens on-screen. It's continuous, uninterrupted mayhem & that kind of Filmmaking is not only powerful, but rare. This is some of the best executed Sequences out there: Probably the only time I'll let Shaky-Cam slide, lol.

Darius.

He needs to be seen to be the dominant ruler in England and unfortunately that means that a maverick figure like Uhtred will always lead him to be at odds with the man. The Battle of Lunden turns out to be no battle at all as the Brothers pull a rope a dope on Uhtred & Aethelred's forces and attack the camp where Aethelflaed and Thyra are at. The tracking shot of the two women running for safety amidst the chaos is a great scene similar to the scene with Jon Snow during the Battle of the Bastards. What will happen to poor Aethelflaed & Thyra, we will have to see. Thanks Abi & Imon for the Christmas surprise, I hope the both of you and your families have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. All the best and take care ladies, love and peace.

A man like that is a great ally and a equal enemy so it does perturb Alfred that Uhtred is someone he can't control or trust completely. It's also that Alfred knows that Uhtred is a more conventional choice to be a King then him. Alfred became King by process of elimination and opportunity. He certainly deserved the crown but many including himself didn't think it would ever happen. He also is a pious, learned, reserved man who has been plagued by sickness and infirmity. Alfred is the opposite from most of the Kings in England which is also why he was so successful. He may have been a physically unimpressive, sickly, pious bookworm but his strategic thinking and political acumen was second to none.

So he strikes back they only way he can by abusing her physically and emotionally. Him demanding that test of her purity is to humiliate her and Alfred by slandering his daughter as a whore. It's a good thing that Beocca didn't go through with it and testified that she passed. As for Alfred's continued distrust of Uhtred, it's a flaw of his as is Uhtred's stubborn nature. Uhtred has saved his life, his family's life and protected his kingdom and kept the dream of England alive more than once. However Alfred still can't reconcile the pagan in Uhtred with himself. Alfred's a pious man, he wants a united Anglo-Saxon kingdom under God however he can't do that without someone like Uhtred. He both respects and fears Uhtred's magnetism, cunning and martial skills.

You ladies have now seen how awful Aethelred can be. He's not Ramsay levels bad but he is pretty loathsome, a wonderfully slimy performance by Toby Regbo. His BFF Aldhelm is an interesting character, far more level headed than his Lord but just as underhanded. His poor treatment of Aethelflaed is just the tip of the iceberg for his shitty behaviour. He bristles at being a vassal to Alfred and that his daughter is opinionated and willful. She's no smiling simpleton and he certainly threatened by her power and by extension Alfred's.
