The Legend of Korra 2x5 (Clear) Reaction!

I agree with Ace. Even more so, the past can sometimes justify someone's action. If a person isn't taught how to communicate, how can you hold them accountable for something they never learned? This is Korra's first relationship and she's a teenager that was sheltered for most of her life in a very extreme manner. It's not like just being somewhat sheltered, she literally was pretty much locked up with no contact with those her same age. She was raised as an Avatar in training which was something Aang's friend and trainer monk gyatso didn't want to happen for Aang. In ATLA, it's clear that Aang had a childhood, made friends, and traveled across the nations before even knowing he was the avatar.

Thanks, Ace appreciate the response wanted to get more insight on the background! Though I disagree with the final comment I really can agree that she had a lot going against her. Thanks!

Would you react to episodes 7 & 8 together since they are a 2-parter?

I fully agree with Mei on this one. She, in retrospect, has more natural talent as a bender, but less world experience than Aang did, and he was completely out of his time. Knowing a few people that have been hyper sheltered like Korra, they have the exact same issues of trying to relate and communicate with others, especially when they were considered exceptional at something. Add to it that nobody communicates well with Korra beyond her granny, and it's chaos waiting to happen. Plus, the level of wild ish Korra was asked to deal with back to back to back would have left most defeated. I hate to compare, but I often say that Korra could do what Aang did, but Aang couldn't have handled what Korra did.

Your comment had a weird energy bro... or maybe that's just my heightened senses kicking in after I exhale? 🧐🤔 lmao

I can appreciate what you're saying, Mel. But I would like to ask someone who I assume defends the character of Korra when people try to hate on her, which I always feel is somewhat justified. Though I feel it's important to look at her background and her wants to better understand the character of Korra, which is important, I don't think a person's background justifies the actions they take (it explains it but doesn't justify)? I personally don't dislike Korra but I completely understand people's dislike of Korra because she is very impulsive immature. But hey showcasing flaws do make a good character sometimes so maybe that's what they were going for.

Can I just say THANK YOU for trying to understand Korra and actually keeping in mind that she's been sheltered her entire childhood? I've seen many reactors react to this show and so far I haven't seen any of them realize that Korra's flaws are largely due to her just not knowing how to interact with other people and because her entire personality is intertwined with her need to prove herself as the Avatar. Her behavior is outrageous, but I'm happy that there are other people who see why Korra is the way she is.

For sure lmao

I feel like there will be no plot discussions when they get to Zaheer and Gazan

Also I think the fact that she has been sheltered her entire life around old people and masters rather than teens her own age makes it hard for her to understand how relationships and friendships and communication works. And along with being sheltered that way, she'd also been told her entire life that she's the most important person and people respect her decision only for her to constantly deal with people telling her no all while dealing with complex situations. I don't have to like her character because I don't but I do understand some of these behavioral tendencies.

Love the discussion about the toxicity in Korra and Mako's relationship. But I also feel like you guys are missing the mark *slightly* as to why Korra is so agitated by this conflict in particular. The Northern Water Tribe, for all intents and purposes, outmans, out-techs and outguns the South 10 to 1. It would be like the United States getting into a war with Puerto Rico. It's a war that's almost impossible for the smaller country to win. So every minute and second that Korra can't get help to help the South, by being rejected by the President or Mako or both, the closer her tribe (and her mom and dad) face total annihilation, death and possible servitude. Of course, that doesn't make what Korra is doing *right*. Because, again, she's the Avatar. Like Unalaq himself said, she's "supposed to remain neutral" in these types of conflicts. But what we forget in all of this is that every Avatar, from Kyoshi to Aang to Korra, are all human and have their own flaws that they have to work through. Korra's lack of patience, her toxicity in her relationship with Mako and how she wants to be the Avatar, are all things that *have* to be addressed if Korra is to move forward and become not only a better person, but a better Avatar for the world at large.
