The Northern and Southern tribe aren't separate. The "Chief" has always, or at least majoritively, been in the North. So her uncle is actually chief of both, not just the North. That's why it would be a civil war compared to two different powers.

How did she not learn anything from the first season? If anything, she did but what she learned only bolstered her personality, if you paid attention to the narrative. Hell, Korra's plan at the end of Book 1 is literally "Let's hit Amon head on", which was a fully impulsive plan. But she wasn't punished for it and was, in fact, rewarded for it by both the narrative and the threat of Amon at large.
Her character wasn't reverted; more that they started to really hone in on Korra's impulsiveness. I know you mean well, but I just hate the misconception here that her character "reverted", but not really if you pay attention.

Absolutely loved the end of episode discussion! Abi hit the nail on the head with Korra not learning anything from last season, as the team's production woes meant that they kind of had to revert her character to mid season 1 Korra in order to get the story to work, which is a big complaint for some people. The other big one is something you've also picked up on which is the exceeding amount of teen angst, which I think is really unfair considering how Zuko was the epitome of angst in TLAB. Korra has got Aang to live up to, a prodigy who saved the world at only 12 years old, which is bound to make anyone, ESPECIALLY an 18 year old girl, feel like they have to prove themselves. Think it's such exceptional writing considering the meta narrative of people expecting LOK to live up to TLAB, which I absolutely think it does, just in very different ways.
This is the one series I really wish we got more of, but at the same time the slower you go the more time we get to enjoy it. Can't wait for the rest of the season!

Something about ATLA and LOK that I love is that it makes family a big part of its focus. The messy, the beautiful, and everything in between.
The Mako slander is fine by me. Lol. I don't hate him but I really didn't like him until s4. But I agree, Mako and Korra don't seem very compatible right now.
Also, I loved that post-discussion. Loved hearing all your thoughts :)

All this family drama! I figure that Tenzin being the only airbender is the root of why Aang had to give him more attention; though that doesn't absolve him because its unfortunate he couldn't at least try to include them. Jinora is the oldest of Tenzin's kids who saw the statue; but Ikki, the second oldest is who ran away.
My favorite thing about the trio of Bumi, Kya and Tenzin is how much they remind me of the original 3 of the Gang. Bending wise they are the same and even in terms of age order with Sokka / Bumi as the oldest and Aang / Tenzin as the youngest.
Controversial opinion: Despite Mako's track record in relationships (and his choice of words), i feel like his advise is good for someone trying to stay away or leave a bad relationship.
