Omg, it doesn't ruin it. All the other Fates are inferior to Fate/Zero, but if you lived by that rule you'd never be able to watch anything AMAZING because the next thing you watch would disappoint you.

But if you keep going with Unlimited Blade Works I believe the 3rd episode literally explains the rules of the war that the characters are in. It's a lot less confusing than people will make it out to be.

2020-10-12 09:34:07 +0000 UTC^This 100% Zero builds on the story leading up to UBW, Zero spends the first half building the world and the characters. By the time they get past that half way point they'll be flying through the episodes past the ending of Zero and barreling through UBW. That's way more enjoyable than starting with UBW going at it's own pace and then doing Zero which would be much slower that first half before it picks up in the latter.... that would not be as enjoyable for them and they should definitely get the world building part (slower) out of the way first.

2020-10-11 10:33:33 +0000 UTCThe ordering does have it's pros and cons, I wouldn't argue against that but I personally feel UBW takes more away from Fate Zero's story (particularly the ending). In my opinion Zero has the better story and nothing should take away from it's story; prequel or not. Zero still has decent animation.... But UBW has the better animation (spell effects/fights), it's something they would notice if they went from UBW and then to Zero.... which is one reason I'm annoyed the "patreon requestee" had them watch the first episode of UBW instead of Zero. And yeah... 2006 Fate sucked except for the ending.

I know, I know, some info is revealed here that is meant to be secret in a different show, but just for the sake of clarity and easy of understanding, this is the best you'll get.

Fate Zero takes place before UBW, but the source material of UBW was created first, thus making it so the UBW story explains things a lot better to beginners than Fate Zero necessarily does. It just sucks cause the most natural starting point, the original Fate Stay Night was such a bad adaptation in comparison to the other two.
