I'm sure Jimmy got the bowling balls after the talk with Howard, since it was his "attitude" and that NAMAST3 plate that got him all riled up. He probably stopped after he saw Acker (you see him checking his watch and then pausing to think something over).
Also I agree about Gus, he was offloading his stress and anxiety on Lyle. There was no alibi he could establish (for what even?) that would be of any use by being at the restaurant.

I thought that the scene in the beginning where Saul was getting the bowling balls had actually taken place after he met with Howard and they had just shown it to us prior. Maybe he even went to that store later that day, since he had met Howard that morning or afternoon. As for the scene with Gus and Lyle, I think he was acting that way because he felt he had all but lost control of the situation with the DEA and his dealers/money, so to make up for that he was going overboard on Lyle & the cleaning because he could still dictate those.
