Yup, that's Ken from Breaking Bad alright. He was a douche back here, just as he was later on when he crossed paths with Walt. He appears in one episode of each series and is served a bitter pill by the respective series' main character. Jimmy does it in his signature way by swindling him into willingly paying their bar bill while Walt took a much more volatile approach. ;)

And the switch compares to who he has become as Gene (in the future), he's fearful and didn't want to go through the emergency exit, scared of the repercussions, whereas back in present, he wasn't afraid of consequences, had to fulfill his curiosity.
