Also, I believe a king would have multiple children to boost the odds of raising a good successor. You don’t know how good a child will be at a young age, after all. As an example, his first kid could’ve been a Canute (no offense Canute, just talking in the king’s perspective). If he only had the one, he’d be screwed.
