It doesn't matter how much people try to ruin it, it isn't something you can expect. You've seen all of these things (nen after death, pact to gain stronger nen, etc.) talked about, so it's in universe and makes sense with the rules that have been set up, but HxH doesn't do power jumps. Everything is linear. Then you see the culmination of Gon's immaturity and emotions, where he decides to give everything to become a monster for just a few minutes. And it kind of breaks you with it. It's not a surface level pain, it's a deep, psychological pain.
