Dust mites are strongly associated with the development of asthma, eczema and shellfish allergies in humans. The latter due to an allergen they carry called Tropomyosin.
They do not need to drink water, as they absorb moisture from the air.
Nearly 100,000 can live in a single square yard of carpet.
They lack eyes, and use sensory hair-like organs to find food.
