I came in Gintama with no expectations at all, I was just looking for a goofy anime that can make me laugh and I liked the design of Gintoki (me being a fan of Kakashi). I had observed that it’s one of the biggest factors that determine the experience someone will have with Gintama-what their expectations are at the start. So I was all for the comedy and I really loved it: the parodies, the stupidity, the exaggeration, the voice acting, the randomness, the R-rated stuff and the toilet humor, the tsukomi schtick (read: Shinpachi’s screaming), and most of all the creativeness. What I didn’t expect though, was the masterful storytelling and character and world building. It went WAY beyond my expectations. The layers, the depths, the weaving of the stories, the emotions, I was absolutely blown away and hooked. By the time I’m in the 150+ episodes, I can’t go by a day without it. By the 200+, I am binging so much but I have to stop because my jaw had enough laughing. By the 300th episode, I’m obsessed. And by the end of the the last arc, I can’t move on. While waiting for the Very Final, I found myself rewatching some episodes here and there until I went ahead and watched everything all over again. And when I’ve watched the last movie, I’m crying the entire time. I love a lot of anime but Gintama is so so special. Lots of reasons why, it has its flaws too of course, but just the way it attached to my heart, is what makes it unique. And the fact that it’s very very rewatchable doesn’t help. I haven’t moved on at all and I will always go back to Gintama. It feels like home, in Edo and everyone there I love.

Pros of Gintama: Comedy - when you're having a bad day and you really need something to lift you up or laugh the majority of this anime will have you laughing so hard you may fall out of your chair. (You should really include one of your clips where this happened) Action - Despite not having super flashy Qi blasts like dbz this anime manages to pull off some of the best Samarai/ninja action and mixes in technology. Friends/Rivals - You get to see buddies and rivals all throughout the anime Parodies/ 4th wall breaking - I don't think I've seen any show with more paraodies on anime, pulp culture etc than Gintama has. From dragonball to JoJo and even starwars just about any popular Eastern and Western content is not safe from being loved or made fun of in Gintama. Ever expanding plot - Even in the non serious episodes Gintama somehow has a good story for about every episode or arc leaving you wonder how in the world could they take something so simple and make a good story out of it?
