2023-08-29 10:05:00 +0000 UTCThe point about “authenticity” in songwriting is great. I know you guys aren’t rap fans, but that’s a big problem within in. Now that the internet is around and hand in hand with the musical product there’s no buffer between the fans and the performers like there used to be. Actual rap technicians (either lyrically or in a song craft sense) used to thrive in great pet due to this buffer and how it protected them from criticisms of being phonies. Now social cancers with no musical skill are at the peak of the music because it’s more marketable to be “real”, and the labels have practically no incentive to invest in common thugs vs actual artists who sought to reinvest the label’s investment back into their careers
