Added 2020-09-18 20:35:14 +0000 UTCFriday evening Feeling the Breeze ;) No showering in a lake or river this time. We got invited by a 5 start hotel to spend three nights and we said yes to it. We treated ourselves with all the luxury and realised again real luxury is freedom for us and not three pools and a cabana. But we enjoyed it very much and Gerben even experienced a spiritual journey during a massage, hmmmm, not sure what to think about that exactly ;)
We stayed in the first 5 star hotel of Croatia, quite an interesting story. The Hotel Jadran was first built after the Second World War, in 1948, by German war prisoners, as a resort for the secret police. The hotel welcomed its last guests 1989 before the Croatian War of Independence started. It was then used to home displaced persons and refugees, before later being devastated. Now it is rebuild by the previous owner who had to sell it before to avoid a bankruptcy.
The interesting part is how Corona impacted the tourism industry big time, we saw it from nearby, the hotel was almost empty in July and that's most probably why they invited us, a dirty road trip family, wo we entered with their dirty clothes instead of being fancy.
