I don’t like to rank a director’s films, especially auteurs like Villeneuve, they all have some quality and some people have favorites or whatever. But this is his film that stands out to me the most and really caught me off guard. There were comparisons made to Interstellar and I love both (it’s my personal favorite Nolan movie) but I think that Arrival does a slightly better job of exploring this big science fiction idea in a personal, intimate, and human way when it comes full circle in the end. Not knocking either or pitting them against each other in any sense but this film is a perfect marriage of story and storyteller that arrives at its twist in such a subtle, beautiful way. Wish they would make more movies like this. Also, I lol'd at "Sup!"
